Marcia's Monthly Selection
Vergelegen Premium Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot £10.99
I couldn’t resist recommending this wine I know so well, having spent several years working for Vergelegen. I’ve always loved the Merlot from this stunning South African Estate and know that this blend gets the right balance of juicy new world fruit but with a smooth and classic wood matured structure.
Te Mata Woodthorp Vineyard Gamay Noir, Hawkes Bay £16.99
For a while in my earlier career I worked alongside Nick Buck while he was selling his father’s wine in the UK. I always liked the strong family ethos and of course know that they have fabulous vineyard sites in a classic NZ region. This wine is new to me, but I love the very Kiwi attitude of making a completely relaxed wine for hedonistic pleasure in a region that is usually associated with rather more tightly buttoned and serious wines.
Ugni Blanc/Colombard Domaine de Tariquet, Cotes de Gascogne £6.99
I have been buying Tariquet wines for many years and often come back to this as a terrific all purpose white. A great January wine too as this is my suggestion for a slimmers' wine with only 10.5% alcohol.
Sauvignon de Touraine, Le Haut Perron, Domaine Guy Allion £8.49
One of the first wines I tasted from OWC range and was instantly impressed. In a world awash with Sauvignons it is great to come across one that has the right balance of pungent personality, refreshing minerality and ultimately real drinkability.
